The safest way to vote this year is to vote by mail. During the Civil War Americans used the mail to vote, and the post office has been essential to our democracy ever since. 

Ryan Boyer grew up in a strong Union household and remembers playing in union halls as a child.

Today is the Deadline to Register to Vote in Pennsylvania. Take a moment to look now, be sure you are a registered voter, and that all your information is up to date and correct.

OSHA Removes Information of Workplace Deaths from Homepage

The mission of the Occupation Health and Safety Administration, or OSHA, is “to ensure safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education, and assistance.” As part of their work, they maintained a prominent public list to acknowledge lives lost on the job.

 

Restricted and Suspended Legal Immigration

The xenophobia of Donald Trump has been well documented throughout much of his career in real estate and in politics. The policies that develop from these ideas strike against the foundation of the United States of America. 

 

Weakened Union Elections

The Trump Administration knows that solidarity is the only way to protect our Democracy from tyranny. It is why they sow division and unrest wherever they can, especially within Unions.

 

Thousands of Union Members across Pennsylvania have been working tirelessly to bring attention to great Labor candidates. County after county, from Allegheny to Reading, Montgomery to Lawrence. Union Members are showing up and showing out for this all-important election.

Union Avoidance Tactics

 

 

One of the earliest anti-Union actions of the Trump Administration was to repeal the ‘persuader rule,’ an Obama Administration policy that required businesses to disclose when they were using outside agencies to prevent organizing. Businesses use contractors for anti-Union persuasion 75% of the time.

 

 

States privatizing employment services

 

In the first week of October alone, over 800 million people filed new unemployment claims in America, four times the amount of unemployed prior to the pandemic. When people file for unemployment they are referred to various agencies for support and some that may help them get back into their career or even refine their job seeking skills.

 

Gig Workers

 

 There are approximately 55 million Gig Workers, or Independent Contractors, in the United States workforce. There are benefits that many clearly find in Gig Work, but some employers use this classification to take advantage of workers.

 

Being an Independent Contractor means you have should have a lot to say about the dynamics and conditions of your work. For example, many would think this kind of work offers you the ability to choose the best way to conduct your work and set your rates.
