"Mourn the dead and Fight for the living!"

The Spokane Regional Labor Council representing tens of thousands of working people in the Spokane region, and on behalf of all workers, is holding our 28th annual Worker’s Memorial Ceremony on Saturday, April 22nd at 11:00 a.m. in Mission Park (Mission & Perry).

The public is invited to attend as we read the names of more than seventy workers in Washington State who died in 2017 due to work related injury or illness.

The ceremony is to honor those workers and remind ourselves of all that still needs to be done to ensure safety in the workplace. Each year thousands of workers are killed and millions more suffer injury or illness because of their jobs. We recommit to defending the right of every worker to a safe job and will endeavor until that promise is fulfilled.

More than four decades ago, Congress passed the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), promising every worker the right to a safe job. Unions and our allies have fought hard to make that promise a reality -  winning protections that have made jobs safer and saved lives. But our work is not done until every worker can go to their job with confidence they will return safely to their families.
