WHEREAS, AFL-CIO President Liz Schuler stated: “The horrifying acts of this administration’s militarized immigration enforcement in Minneapolis,
Portland, Chicago, and cities across this country are not about safety. They are about power, and they are putting innocent working people in danger.”

WHEREAS, the recent detention of local union members has raised the consciousness of workers across the region to the injustices committed within the Northwest Detention Center, which Secretary-Treasurer Lawver called a stain on Tacoma and Pierce County.

WHEREAS, delegates of the Pierce County Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO are outraged that ICE publicly murdered Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good
in Minneapolis, and shot Luis David Nino-Moncada and Yorlenys Betzabeth Zambrano-Contreras in Portland;

WHEREAS, the current Pierce County Sheriff, Keith Swank, has made inflammatory remarks that divide workers and erode trust in local police, and his
open objections to Washington state’s Keep Washington Working Act have left Pierce County open to potential lawsuits;

WHEREAS, working people in Pierce County have voiced their fear about increasing ICE activities directed at immigrant workers and their families;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the PCCLC joins the AFL-CIO and the wider labor community in demanding that ICE immediately stop these dangerous operations and leave our communities and workplaces before even more innocent people are hurt or killed.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the PCCLC calls for the closing of the Northwest Detention Center and swift due process for immigrant workers. An injury to one is an injury to all.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the PCCLC encourages other labor unions to denounce these acts of terror in our communities, and to stand with all immigrants, who are vital members of the working class, our communities, and our labor unions.
