TACOMA, WashThe Pierce County Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO (PCCLC), representing 114 affiliates and more than 44,000 workers, has unanimously endorsed the Pierce Transit ballot measure that will appear before voters this November.

"Reliable public transit is essential infrastructure for working people," said Nathe Lawver, Secretary-Treasurer of PCCLC. "When transportation is one of the biggest expenses families face, investing in more frequent, dependable service helps workers reach their jobs, apprenticeships, childcare, and healthcare while supporting the union workforce that keeps Pierce County moving.”

For working families, improved transit means increased opportunity. Reliable, affordable transportation helps reduce one of the largest household expenses while connecting people to jobs, apprenticeship programs, childcare, healthcare, education, and other essential services. Expanded transit also supports the union workforce that builds, operates, and maintains Pierce County's public transportation system

The Labor Council's endorsement reflects its longstanding commitment to policies that improve affordability for working families, strengthen access to employment opportunities, and invest in public infrastructure that benefits the entire community.

The measure would provide the largest expansion of Pierce Transit service in decades, increasing transit service by approximately 40% throughout the county. The proposal would eliminate hourly weekday frequencies on existing routes, significantly increase evening and weekend service, create new routes serving communities that currently have limited transit access, and provide free rides for seniors. Together, these improvements represent a transformative investment in public transportation that will make it easier for workers, students, families, and seniors to get where they need to go.
