What is UnionHall?

UnionHall is the AFL-CIO’s website management platform. For over 20 years, the AFL-CIO has provided an easy-to-use website system designed specifically for AFL-CIO labor bodies and affiliate unions and their locals. We’ve continued to make updates and improvements to those systems to meet the rapid changes in technology and evolution of best practices around website design. To that end, in 2020, we decided to undertake a rebuild of our current website system–UnionHall.

We’re excited to announce that we’re in the process of migrating websites to the new version of UnionHall. UnionHall 2.0 makes a number of big improvements to the previous system including:

  • Better performance and security.
  • Improved (yet familiar) user interface for site admins.
  • Greater flexibility in how your website can look.

All content will be migrated from the old system to UnionHall 2.0, making the transition as seamless as possible. Ongoing AFL-CIO training and support for site administrators and handling of all software updates.

Feature 2

Who is UnionHall for?

Union Hall is designed for national unions and affiliated organizations that want to have a consistent website experience for their locals. Hundreds of local unions from over a dozen unions use UnionHall for their website. More than 100 AFL-CIO state federations, central labor councils, area labor federations and constituency groups also use the UnionHall platform for their own websites.

Features3

Why Should I Use UnionHall?

UnionHall is specifically built to meet the needs of the labor movement. Not only are websites easily customizable--based on the needs of each union--but they're built to be easy to manage.  Each site created in Union Hall is responsive, meaning it looks great on mobile devices and desktops, and everything in between. New features to the platform are also sourced from feedback from national unions and their locals, meaning the tool evolves to meet the changing needs of unions.

But it's not just about the platform. In most cases, there is little to no cost to use the tool for locals and AFL-CIO labor bodies and the AFL-CIO offers free ongoing training and support for site administrators and handles all software updates.
