President Daryl C. Newman, with his second term as the President of the Metro Detroit AFL-CIO and in his fourth term as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Michigan AFL-CIO, stands as a pivotal figure in Michigan's labor movement.

His journey in labor advocacy is rooted in legacy, being the son of a union postal worker and a Detroit Public School teacher. This background instilled in him an unwavering commitment to unionism and community service from an early age. Upon graduating from Michigan State University, Newman's aptitude for political organization flourished. He rapidly ascended to key roles, including the youngest Political Director of the Michigan Democratic Party. President Newman credits his success to the power of collective action and resilience. He understands the importance of staying persistent, especially in challenging times, as a cornerstone of achieving lasting progress.

Newman's multifaceted role extends beyond his AFL-CIO duties; he serves as a Lieutenant in the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, a member of the AFT Michigan, a delegate to the Democratic National Convention (elected by his peers), and holds board positions with the Economic Alliance of Michigan and United Way for Southeastern Michigan. His commitment to labor extends to mentoring young men across Michigan, reinforcing his dedication to nurturing the next generation of leaders. As a lifelong resident of Detroit, President Newman's vision for the future is anchored in hope, opportunity, and prosperity for all.

Guided by the belief that collective efforts can shape a brighter future, he continues to be a formidable advocate for fairness, equality, and justice in the labor movement.
