We are excited to announce that working families in Macon County have joined in solidarity to create the We Are One Community fund and we encourage your support.

In a tradition of giving back where we live, work and retire - We Are One Community is a charitable giving fund created to help working families make a bigger difference through collective giving. The not-for-profit, tax deductible, donor-advised fund is housed at The Community Foundation and promises to award 100% of all personal donations to local charities.

The fund will collect donations for a 12-month period. There will be no paid staff, only an all volunteer board of working men and women who will recommend distribution to local charities. The board will consider any local not-for-profit presented by donors. Accrued interest will be reinvested into the fund and The Community Foundation will receive 1% for administration.

There are 13,000 union members and retirees in Macon County. If only half of us give $1 a week – or $52 a year - we can collectively donate $338,000 each year to charity in the name of working families, not corporations. Imagine the possibilities.

You can give a one-time gift, provide an automatic draft from your checking account or ask your employer to do monthly payroll deduction. Donations can be sent to: We Are One Community, c/o The Community Foundation, 101 S. Main St., Suite 400, Decatur, IL 62523.

We Are One Community was started in 2011 and $8,000 in grants were first distributed on Labor Day 2012.  This year, 8 years later, we have almost doubled that amount and will be presenting $15,600 in grants on Labor Day 2020.  Since the beginning, we have given $146,300 in grants to local charity.  Now that's something to be proud of!!
