The Bloomington & Normal Trades & Labor Assembly (AFL-CIO) swore in new officers on December 7 and instituted two new awards.

Shown in the photo are (left to right, back row) new Financial Secretary Jerry Kelleher (UA 99), new Recording Secretary Hunter Warner (IUOE 649), new President Robert Paul (LIUNA 362) and returning trustee Keith Farris (ATU 752).  In the front row is trustee Greg Henry (UA 99), and new Vice-President Scott Nimmo (OPCMIA 18).

The Assembly initiated two awards, the “2442 Labor Militancy Award” honors the 1978 Normal Fire Fighters’ strike, where 24 fire fighters were sentenced to 42 days in jail for striking.  It was presented to AFSCME Local 1110, which represents Illinois State University building and food service workers, for their contract fight last spring.  At the photo’s left with the AFSCME members is out-going Trades & Labor President Adam Heenan (TNG-CWA Local 34071) and in blue are two Fire Fighters’ 2442 strike veterans, Jim Schrepfer and Tom Korn. Named after the late Assembly President, the “Ronn Morehead Service to Labor Award” was presented to Mike Matejka (LIUNA 362).

The Trades & Labor is the AFL-CIO central labor council for DeWitt, Livingston, Logan and McLean counties.
