Jonathan Byrd


A lifelong resident of Calhoun County, Jonathan Byrd currently serves as the Director of External Affairs for the Michigan Laborers’ District Council where he advocates for over 13,000 skilled union construction workers at the local, state, and federal levels. In addition to his work with the Laborers Union, he serves as President of the South Central Michigan AFL-CIO Central Labor Council and as Secretary of the Board of the United Way of the Battle Creek & Kalamazoo Region. Elected to public office in 2007, Jonathan Byrd serves as a Trustee of Kellogg Community College and has held the positions of Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Board.

Jonathan Byrd is a Tomorrow’s Political Leaders Fellow (2004) through the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research at Michigan State University. Mr. Byrd is also actively involved in his community, having served as the Chair of the Calhoun County Democratic Party, Member of the Calhoun County Senior Millage Allocation Committee, Board Member for Kellogg Community College Foundation, and Battle Creek A. Phillip Randolph Institute. He is a parishioner at St. Phillip’s Catholic Church in Battle Creek and has three children: Isaac, Maredith, and Jack.
