...to downtown Napa. That is what happened on Saturday Jan 21, 2017. Veterans Park was overflowing with people backed up onto the 1st and 3rd street bridges. They were there to demonstrate to the new president that they are demanding their rights. This was not a democratic protest, this was not a republican protest. It was a women’s demonstration of unity. It was the largest crowd ever assembled in Napa, reportedly and a part of a larger global demonstration. It exceeded the planners hopes many times over. Many of our elected officials were seen in the crowd some of which were included as speakers. Our Congressman Mike Thompson gave a rousing speech admonishing us to Stand Up and was rewarded with his own Pink Pussy Hat. That message was also reinforced by our Assembly Member, Cecilia Aguilar-Curry. The Human Mosaic gave us inspiration listening to speakers from 2nd grade to grandparents, from Bill Dodd and Julia Inman, to a Latina addressing the crowd in Spanish. Inspirational songs and creative signs moved us. Even the rain couldn’t stop the movement and inspired voices to be heard all the way from Napa to DC and will for some time to come.
