Siblings, our hearts go out to all of those impacted by the fires and now is the time for every union to step up and support their members in need. We are trying to do our part by starting a relief fund for active and retired members.

We hope to see you all at our Delegates meeting this Wednesday to get caught up on all the Labor happenings. This Months UWLG meeting cancelled due to schedule conflicts surrounding the relief efforts.

We know that this disaster relief will go on for months so we will attempt to keep you all up to date on needs. When I contacted Napa County they indicated that right now they are having to warehouse donations of things like blankets and water etc. but could use monetary donations. Here is a communication from the City of Napa:

  • I am sure many of you are getting questions about how the community can help with the fire relief efforts in Napa. At this time, no donations are being accepted. However, information about volunteering and monetary donations has been listed below:
  •  For volunteer information, please contact the Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership (CVNL). 65 Mitchell Blvd #101, San Rafael, CA 94903 (415) 479-5710 or www.cvnl.org
  •  For donation information, the Napa Valley Community Foundation has mobilized its Disaster Relief Fund. 3299 Claremont Way #2, Napa, CA 94558 (707) 254-9565 or www.napavalleycf.org

In Solano County the Animal rescue shelter has over 450 horses and counting and could use donations of meals for the 150 to 200 volunteers. Our friend Dana Dean is coordinating the donation of meals:

  • I am working on coordinating meal deliveries for the volunteers at Large Animal Evacuation Center at the Solano County Fairgrounds. We are in good shape through Wednesday, but each day after that we need breakfasts delivered by 7:00 a.m. for 100, lunch for 150 by about noon, and dinner for 150 at 6:00 p.m. In general, we are looking for hand held foods like breakfast burritos, sandwiches for lunch and tacos or BBQ for dinner. We can accomodate sides, but do not have refrigeration or heat.(Hold the mayo.) If you or your organization can help, please contact my office at 707-747-5206 and we can connect about details from there. Thanks so much.

Affiliated unions can provide the names and contact information of members living in the North Bay and Napa Solano area that have lost their homes or evacuated. Please email mhirshfield_nblc@att.net to place members names on the distribution list.

SEIU #1021 had two teams and took the top spot in the Labor Service division

And Firefighters Local #1186 and Napa Firefighters Local #3124 battled it out with Vallejo Fire coming out on top.
