Labor Day: The Napa Solano Central Labor Councils 9th Annual Labor Day Breakfast will take place Monday September 4th at the Ironworkers Local #378 Union Hall in Benicia. Sponsorship opportunities are coming out this week and we hope to see everyone in attendance as we celebrate Labor's contribution to our great country.

Vallejo Waterfront Weekend sign-ups are now.  Sponsorship and Sign up applications are now available for the 4th annual Vallejo Waterfront Weekend and it’s Whale Boat Regatta. This is the fourth year and every year we have doubled the amount of Labor participation and hope to do so again this year. All that's needed are 8 willing members with strong back and perhaps a bit weak of mind who love a challenge and also love a party to field a team.  To sign up, please go to our homepage and click on the link marked Vallejo Waterfront Weekend.

The event is Oct. 7th and 8th with the Labor division rowing on Saturday the 7th and Congressman Mike Thompson is hosting a Warriors Challenge cup for all teams willing to compete for a cash prize to be donated to the charity of the winners choice!

Last year's winners were the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators Local #16  and are not only taking on all comers this year but quite frankly talking a whole lot of smack about last year’s controversial victory! So if you and your membership want to participate in Vallejo biggest party, support our community, have a great deal of fun, and show Solano County what being Labor really means then sign up now.

Visit our website for applications or visit www.vallejowaterfrontweekend.com for more event information.

Strategic Planning: we are in the process of organizing a strategic planning session for later this year. At this month's executive board meeting we will pass out a document to help determine where our affiliate leaders think our labor council is as it relates to fighting for their members. At next month's board meeting we will be actually reporting out in a workshop fashion what our executive board is thinking. At that same meeting we will be picking a date to conduct our strategic planning session and will forward that information to all of our affiliates.

Napa Labor Summit : we held the first of our monthly Napa Labor Summit meetings. Last week the leaders of 10 affiliates met for the first time to discuss labor's next move in Napa County as it relates to project labor agreements, our workers at Queen of the Valley Hospital, the income disparity we all see but none more than Napa County.

Next is an overall strategy to fight for our issues and while it sounds like a big job, we have been working for almost a decade to advance our message while also helping elect labor friendly people to office and now we have to all come together to get the return on investment for our efforts. We will be meeting every month to formulate a plan for moving forward and invite interested community allies to join us.
