NCFCLC Announces Endorsements for 2024 Primary Election
The North Central Florida Central Labor Council (NCFCLC) is proud to announce its endorsements for the upcoming 2024 elections. After careful consideration and with many unanimous votes, we are excited to support the following candidates and ballot measures:
David Arreola for State House District 22 - “We’re proud to support David because coming from a middle-class family, he understands the value of hard work, and the everyday struggles of ordinary citizens. His firsthand experience and dedication make him the perfect choice to represent our district and fight for the needs of regular people.” stated NCFCLC President Lanny Mathis
Yvens Pierre-Antoine for State Attorney of the 8th Judicial Circuit: “As a former prosecutor and public defender, Yvens Pierre-Antoine brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to justice. His work with our children and our youth shows a dedication to solving our gun violence epidemic - we cannot address this crisis without bringing ideas to the table and Yvens has already been implementing solutions. His vision for a fair but firm legal system will greatly benefit our community, making him an outstanding candidate for State Attorney.”
Alachua County:
Chad Scott for Sheriff - “Chad Scott has demonstrated a strong commitment to public safety and community involvement throughout his career in public service. His decades of experience and proactive approach will ensure the safety and well-being of all our community.”
Commissioner Mary Alford for re-election to the County Commission, District 1 - “Commissioner Mary Alford has been a steadfast advocate for environmental protection, economic justice, and equitable policies. Her leadership and dedication to environmental and social justice issues are vital for the continued growth in our county.”
Commissioner Anna Prizzia for re-election to the County Commission, District 3 - “Commissioner Anna Prizzia has shown exceptional leadership and dedication to the preservation of agricultural farmland, environmental protection, and sustainable development. Her continued service will help advance important projects for a healthier and more sustainable community.”
Thomas Vu for School Board, District 2 - “As a former teacher here and Alachua County Education Association member, Thomas Vu brings fresh perspectives and a strong commitment to improving our public school system. His innovative ideas and dedication to student success will be a tremendous asset to the School Board.”
Dr. Leanetta McNealy for re-election to the School Board, District 4 - “Dr. Leanetta McNealy's experience and dedication to education have been invaluable. Her re-election will ensure that we continue to benefit from her vision and expertise as we move forward.”
James Ingle for City of Gainesville Commission, At-Large Seat A - “James Ingle has a deep understanding of the issues facing our city and a clear vision for its future. His experience and commitment to serving the community make him the ideal candidate for the City Commission.”
YES for Renewing the One Mill for School - “With the continued defunding of public schools by the Florida Legislature it will be up to us to stand up for public schools. The One Mill has provided critical funding to programs that enrich the lives of all students and we’re proud to support it once again.”
YES for At-Large Voting Districts - “Returning to at-large voting districts will ensure broader representation and put us back in line with the vast majority of Florida’s counties. Following the disinformation campaign last cycle, Alachua county’s citizens deserve to have a fair debate and clean election on this measure.”
YES for Local Public Utilities - “We’ve witnessed only chaos and disaster from DeSantis’ GRU Authority. Chuck Clemons shoved through the bill to seize Gainesville’s local public utility using underhanded tactics and deceit. Citizens deserve the opportunity to govern their public utility. Local control is essential for maintaining affordable and reliable services.”
Levy County:
Tammy Boyle for Superintendent of Schools - “Tammy Boyle's dedication to educational excellence and her experience as a School Board Member make her the perfect choice for Superintendent of Schools. Her leadership will ensure that our schools thrive and meet the needs of all students.”
Mandy Waters for Clerk of Court and Comptroller - “With over a decade of experience in the office, Mandy Waters is exceptionally qualified to serve as Clerk of Court and Comptroller. She has consistently demonstrated her integrity and we can trust that she will continue to be a valuable asset to Levy County.”
Marion County:
Allison Campbell for re-election to the School Board, District 1 - “We're proud to support Allison Campbell for re-election. Through her first term she has shown her dedication to improving education for all students and has a proven track record in addressing the needs of our school system.”
YES for Renewing the Half-Cent Sales Tax for Schools - “Renewing the half-cent sales tax is crucial for the continued support and enhancement of our schools. This measure will provide essential funding for schools and infrastructure that directly benefit our students.”
“We need more working-class people making the decisions in our government,” continued NCFCLC President Lanny Mathis “All of these candidates are true champions of working families. It’s imperative that we elect people who support apprenticeship programs, respect collective bargaining rights, and support policies that lift up the working families of our community.”
Previously, the FL AFL-CIO and the NCFCLC endorsed Rep. Yvonne Hinson and Commissioner Cynthia Chestnut for re-election and they were re-elected without opposition.
