INTRODUCING OUR 2024 CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE SLATE

The NW Oregon Labor Council’s Committee on Political Education (COPE) met four times over the past two months to interview finalists vying for endorsement in their races for the new Portland City Council, which will be composed of three elected members in each of four districts. 

 

Our process included detailed interviews with more than 50 prospective candidates; a 14-point evaluation matrix testing candidate values, qualifications, and campaign strength; a questionnaire and interview for finalists; and a decision on our picks that was ratified by the full Council at its April and May meetings.

 

This process resulted in a diverse and inclusive group of candidates – 73% of whom come from at least one historically marginalized protected class groups (race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, age, and religion).
