Discount Your Taxes and Put Tax Dollars Into Media Industry Jobs!
DISCOUNT YOUR TAXES AND PUT YOUR TAX DOLLARS INTO MEDIA INDUSTRY JOBS AND #OREGONMADE PROJECTS!!! The Auction Opens Tomorrow, January 8th! The annual Oregon Production Investment Fund (OPIF) Tax Credit Auction helps support the economic development work for the media production industry here in the state. Unlike other business tax incentives, the funding provided to productions is not a giveaway to Hollywood, it is an incentive fund which attracts projects to our state providing a reimbursement for specific costs of production and supporting living wage jobs with benefits for members of I.A.T.SE. Local 488 (Studio Mechanics), IATSE 600 (Cinematographers), IATSE Local 28 (Stagehands), Portland SAG-AFTRA, AFM Local 99, Teamsters Local 305 and more who work in our Oregon Media Ecosystem. Last year the $14 million fund incentivized projects coming into Oregon who in turn spent over $200 million in direct spending on cast and crew wages, construction materials, costumes, props, make up and hair products, equipment rentals, hotels, food, and more. The fund also supports the Oregon Made Foundation which last year partnered with I.A.T.S.E. Local 488 and the Oregon Media Production Association (OMPA) to create the Oregon Media Pathways Program. This groundbreaking, workforce development and diversity hiring initiative project provides funding for paid internships on #OregonMade movies, episodic series, stop motion animation projects, streaming content, commercials, and documentaries. Participants are given membership in OMPA, and are provided with project advisors as well as long term mentors who commit to aiding them in gaining future work. To date we have placed 12 people on projects providing them with the opportunity to explore careers in our industry. Plans for 2020 include expanding the mission of the partnership to include the development of a Pre-Apprenticeship and a Trainee/Apprenticeship programs.
