There’s Trouble in Texas

The fight is on for teachers and other public workers. Normally, employers adjust employee payrolls for savings plans, charitable donations, union dues, and other deductions. SB7 and HB156 in the legislature’s special session would leave the other deductions, but omit union dues. The reason is clear: to destroy Texas unions! Click here to join the statewide fightback.

An injury to one is an injury to all. Dallas labor continues to fight for fair treatment for undocumented working families. Click here to help.

There’s Trouble in Washington

At the July 20 Central Labor Council meeting, Herb Keener of the CWA said that horrible anti-worker aspects of the recently defeated “Trans Pacific Partnership” “trade” bill were being re-negotiated into a new NAFTA. Click here for info and a guide to action.

The Republican effort to take away health care is the Monster That Will Not Die. Click here for information and a guide to action. Leaders of the Alliance for Retired Americans say that the budget now working its way through Congress may have even worse cuts than the anti-health care bills.

There’s Answers in the AFL-CIO

Our state organization has already started work relevant to the 2018 elections. Fair Shot Texas is for working people, not for particular candidates. Financial Secretary-Treasurer Mark York introduced their new North Texas organizer, Jada Propes, at the July 20 meeting.
