Relying on their respective faiths that mandate justice for working people, more than 390 religious leaders have joined together to support the PRO Act. At a news conference yesterday, the members of the Interreligious Network for Worker Solidarity presented a national letter calling for this landmark labor law reform. Catholic Bishop John Stowe of the diocese of Lexington, Kentucky, reflected, “The other day, Pope Francis told the International Labor Organization, ‘the protection of workers and the most vulnerable must be guaranteed by respecting their essential rights, including the right to organize.’ Passing the PRO Act offers a way to do this.” Shaykh Abdool Khan of Islamic Circle of North America explained, “Workers’ rights and the dignity of workers are basic tenets of the Islamic faith. The PRO Act would bring us closer to these truths.” Read the letter.
