About Us

We are one of nearly 500 state and local labor councils of the AFL-CIO and are the heart of the labor movement. We are democratically elected bodies dedicated to represent the interests of working people at the state and local level. We mobilize our members and community partners to advocate for social and economic justice and we strive daily to vanquish oppression and make our communities better for all people—regardless of race, color, gender, religion, age, sexual orientation, or ethnic or national origin.

BUILDING SOLIDARITY

Central Labor Councils (CLCs) serve as a united force, offering critical support and solidarity to affiliated local unions — whether it’s navigating contract battles, advancing political action, or strengthening everyday union efforts. Together, we amplify our collective voice and fight for working families.

SHARING INFORMATION

CLCs serve as means of exchanging information among affiliated public and private-sector local unions, on matters of common interest.

COMMUNITY

Giving back to the community is more than a good deed — it’s a vital part of building lasting relationships within Central Ohio’s workforce. Through strong partnerships with United Way of Central Ohio and St. Stephen’s Community House, we not only uplift our neighborhoods but also provide critical support to union members and their families during times of need. Together, we’re strengthening the fabric of our community and ensuring no one stands alone in a crisis.

PROMOTING POLICY

CLCs propose, support, and promote legislation favorable to and opposes legislation detrimental to the interest of workers and organized labor.
