The New Jersey State AFL-CIO fully supports our brothers and sisters, members of the Writers Guild of America who are on strike.  The Writers Guild of America represents those who write for motion pictures, television, cable, digital media and broadcast news.

The decision to strike was made following more than six weeks of negotiations with Netflix, Amazon, Apple, Disney, Discovery, NBC Universal, Paramount and Sony; all under the umbrella of the Alliance for Motion Pictures and Television Producers (AMPTP).

The negotiating committee began the process in good faith with the intention of reaching a fair and equitable contract.  However, the company’s response was negative, and the members were met with disrespect and contempt.

The studios are taking advantage of the transition to streaming to underpay the writers and undercut their current working conditions.   With all the “modernizing” in the industry, the AMPTP wants to go backwards with its writers' wages and benefits as they continue to reach record profits!

We will not go backwards!

Our brothers and sisters bring value to the industry with their hard work and peerless talent.  Yet, the company devalues their work and will not negotiate in good faith.

Let’s show our Writers Guild of America sisters and brothers that the New Jersey labor movement will do whatever it takes to fully support them in their efforts to reach a fair contract and maintain their hard fought gains over the years.

We will not go backwards!

The picket lines on the East Coast have been in New York City and North Jersey.  We will be notified on a daily basis of each location for New Jersey and will in turn notify all of you so you can participate and picket with the writers.  For more information on how you can be helpful and support the Writers Guild of America members, please visit their website at www.wgaeast.org
